Follow one request from browser to website
Without an explicit proxy, your browser connects to a destination using the network route available to your device. With a compatible proxy configured, the browser asks that intermediary to reach the destination. The website commonly sees an exit address associated with the proxy route.
The setting has a scope. A browser setting does not automatically change a game, email client or command-line tool. A bypass rule can also send selected browser requests directly. Check your visible public IP in the application you configured before assuming its route changed.
Read an IP address, port and protocol together
A usable endpoint needs all three parts: a host address, a port and a protocol. The same IP can offer several ports, and a port number alone does not reliably identify its protocol. In http://203.0.113.10:8080, the scheme tells a client to speak HTTP to a proxy at the example address on port 8080.
Our free proxy list separates those fields and links each endpoint to a detailed card. The card records source names, country metadata, recent attempts, observed exit IP and the actual check time. Its copy action helps transfer the endpoint; it does not install a profile or configure your operating system.
HTTP, HTTPS CONNECT and SOCKS in this directory
An HTTP proxy accepts HTTP proxy requests. CONNECT establishes a tunnel that can carry a destination HTTPS connection; see the MDN explanation of CONNECT. Destination HTTPS and TLS to the proxy are separate features.
SOCKS5 uses a different negotiation protocol. Its specification supports IPv4, domain names, IPv6 and UDP association, but a particular server or application can support less. Our public checks cover IPv4 endpoints carrying TCP-based HTTPS, not UDP. Read the SOCKS5 specification or our practical HTTP vs SOCKS comparison.
Forward proxies and reverse proxies solve different problems
The entries here are forward proxies: a client selects an intermediary for outbound requests. A reverse proxy sits in front of an application or website and handles incoming traffic on that service’s behalf. Load balancing and site caching are common reverse-proxy tasks; they are not services offered by this endpoint catalog.
A proxy can be privately managed, authenticated, or publicly reachable. Public reachability does not tell you who operates it, whether it logs requests or how long access will last. Our import accepts endpoints without credentials and publishes them only after successful connectivity checks.
Choose a proxy or a VPN for your actual task
For a short compatibility test in one program, start with a fresh proxy in the protocol that program supports. Browse proxy countries, open a detailed result and follow the Firefox setup guide if testing browser traffic.
For a VPN client and a VPN profile, use the separate free OpenVPN server catalog and VPN and tunnel protocol directory. A proxy address is not an OpenVPN configuration. Compare routing coverage, encryption and DNS behavior in Proxy vs VPN before deciding.
Understand what a successful check leaves unknown
A passing result means the assigned checker successfully completed its defined requests at the stated time. It does not establish ownership, a no-logging policy, anonymity or availability from every network. Read our measurement method and public proxy safety limits before using an unfamiliar endpoint.
